Chapter 13 - Serpent in the Ranks

|

While Adeline was monitoring Alfonso’s vitals upstairs, a dark sedan was parked in a secluded alleyway three miles from the estate.

Inside the vehicle sat Bruno Castellano and Silvio Reneri, the banished captain.

"He stripped me of everything, Bruno!" Silvio hissed, his face twisted with rage. "Twenty-five years of loyalty thrown in the trash because of a damn widow and her flower shop! He's soft! He's ruining the family!"

"Calm down, Silvio," Bruno said smoothly, lighting a cigar. "Enzo’s reign ends tomorrow at six o'clock."

"How?" Silvio demanded. "He rejected all three heiresses! He's playing games with the old man!"

Bruno let out a cold chuckle. "Exactly. He failed to secure an alliance before his thirty-fifth birthday. Tomorrow, during the council meeting, I will invoke Clause Forty-Two of the charter. With the Rossi, Vance, and Miller families furious at his rejections, the captains will have no choice but to vote Enzo out."

"And who takes the seat?" Silvio asked, his eyes gleaming.

"I do," Bruno replied with absolute confidence. "And the first thing I will do as Don is restore your territory in Bensonhurst and double your cut."

Silvio grinned maliciously. "What about the old man?"

"Alfonso won't survive the week," Bruno said coldly. "Once I take control, we will clean house. No more ridiculous rules about protecting civilians or nurses."

Bruno puffed on his cigar, watching the smoke fill the darkened car. He had spent months secretly siphoning millions from the family’s offshore accounts, setting up private shell companies in the Caribbean. All he needed was the title of Don to seal his complete control over the Marquetti empire.

He had no idea that every single wire transfer he had ever made was currently being printed out on a secure server in Enzo’s private office.
