Chapter 34 - A Choice, Not a Miracle

|

Three months later.

The grand international news conference in Washington D.C. had dominated global headlines for forty-eight hours. The unsealing of the Claire Vance Ledgers had triggered the largest international financial corruption bust in modern history, resulting in the arrest of fourteen high-ranking European executives and the freezing of over twelve billion dollars in illicit assets.

Claire Vance’s name, once forgotten in an unmarked grave, was now celebrated across the world as the ultimate symbol of corporate courage.

Back in New York, the sun was setting warmly over the DeLuca estate garden.

Lorenzo sat on the stone bench near the old oak tree, wearing a comfortable sweater, holding a glass of scotch. Isabella walked across the green lawn toward him, carrying a silver tray with two dinner plates.

"No reports?" she teased as she sat down beside him.

"No reports," Lorenzo smiled, setting his scotch down. "The compliance team has everything under control. Rachel says the international trials will take three years, but our involvement is officially complete."

Isabella rested her head against his shoulder, looking out over the quiet garden.

"It’s finally over," she murmured softly. "Truly over."

"Yes," Lorenzo agreed, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. "The story is complete."

They sat together in comfortable, peaceful silence as the sky turned shades of deep purple and warm gold. The estate was quiet. There were no cameras, no bodyguards lingering in the shadows, and no unresolved questions remaining in the dark.

Lorenzo looked down at Isabella’s hand resting on his knee, seeing her bent silver ring glowing softly in the twilight.

"I love you, Isabella," Lorenzo said quietly—three simple words he spoke every single day of his life now, never taking a single moment for granted.

Isabella turned her head, smiling up at him with a tenderness that warmed his entire soul.

"I love you, Lorenzo," she replied softly. "Thank you for listening."

He leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips—a slow, deep kiss filled with decades of shared history, unspoken devotion, and absolute peace.
