THE CAMERA IN THE HEDGE. / Chapter 8 / 30

Chapter 8 - THE RED LIGHT.

Elena stared toward the hedge.

There it was again.

A tiny red light.

Regular.

Mechanical.

Recording.

She slowly lifted one trembling arm.

Marcus frowned.

“What?”

Elena kept pointing.

Victoria followed the direction of her hand.

Her face changed immediately.

Not much.

Just enough.

Marcus saw it.

“What are you pointing at?”

Elena did not answer.

She was too exhausted to trust her voice.

Her finger remained extended.

Marcus turned.

At first he saw only hedge leaves reflecting the pool light.

Victoria stepped forward quickly.

“She’s delirious.”

Marcus looked back at her.

“Why do you care what she’s pointing at?”

“I don’t.”

Her answer came too quickly.

Elena kept her arm raised.

The baby cried softly against Marcus.

He moved one step sideways.

From the new angle, something pale became visible between the leaves.

A white cylindrical shape.

Victoria’s breathing changed.

Elena looked directly at her.

The fake tears had stopped.

Marcus turned toward the hedge again.

The tiny red light blinked.

Once.

Twice.

His expression tightened.

And Victoria slowly released his arm.
