Chapter 18 - Rebuilding the Sanctuary

The following weeks were a period of intense, beautiful healing for Lucas and Lily. With the toxic presence of Vanessa completely eradicated, the heavy, suffocating atmosphere in the Bennett house finally lifted. Lucas fired the interior designer and spent a chaotic, laughter-filled weekend with Lily putting all of her finger paintings back on the stainless-steel refrigerator.
He didn't just return things to normal; he actively worked to reinforce Lily's absolute security in her home.
One Saturday morning, Lucas walked into the kitchen wearing old jeans and a faded t-shirt, carrying a massive stack of lumber from his truck.
"What are we building, Daddy?" Lily asked, looking up from her bowl of cereal, the yellow blanket draped safely over her shoulders.
"We, my little architect, are going to build a treehouse," Lucas announced, dropping the wood in the backyard. "The biggest, best treehouse in the city. And it’s going to have a secret password, and nobody is allowed inside unless you invite them."
Lily’s eyes widened with sheer delight. "Can it have a yellow door?"
"It can have a yellow door, a purple roof, and whatever else you want," Lucas laughed, picking her up and spinning her around the kitchen.

They spent the next month working on the treehouse. Lucas, the billionaire CEO who managed thousands of construction workers, insisted on driving every nail himself, with Lily acting as his chief inspector. They painted the door a bright, cheerful yellow, matching Grace’s blanket.
It wasn't just a playhouse. It was a physical manifestation of Lucas’s promise. A sanctuary built entirely by a father's hands, dedicated entirely to his daughter's joy.
