Chapter 15 - The Corporate Sabotage
Vanessa quickly realized that public gossip wasn't enough to break Lucas Bennett. She needed to hit him where it would cause actual, measurable damage. Before her abrupt eviction, Vanessa had used her position as his fiancée to gain access to several of his private executives. She had gathered intel on the massive "Harbor Point" project—a multi-billion-dollar waterfront development that Lucas had spent three years designing.
Using her PR firm, Vanessa covertly organized a coalition of rival developers and aggressive environmental lobbying groups. She leaked highly confidential, out-of-context preliminary zoning reports to the press, falsely suggesting that Bennett Development was planning to illegally bypass environmental regulations.
The resulting public outcry was explosive. Protestors gathered outside the Bennett headquarters, and the city council threatened to suspend the Harbor Point permits pending a full federal review.
Lucas stood in his high-rise office, looking down at the protestors through the floor-to-ceiling windows. His phone had been ringing nonstop for forty-eight hours.
"She leaked the phase-one drafts," his chief legal counsel, David, explained, pacing the office. "The drafts we discarded two years ago because they weren't environmentally sound. She presented them to the press as our final blueprints. It’s corporate sabotage, Lucas. We can sue her for breach of confidentiality and defamation."
"No lawsuits," Lucas commanded, turning away from the window. "A lawsuit takes years and keeps her name tied to mine in the press. It gives her the spotlight she is desperately craving."

"Then how do we fix this?" David asked in frustration. "The city council is going to vote on suspending the permits tomorrow."
"We don't fight the lie with lawyers," Lucas smiled, a cold, brilliant strategy forming in his mind. "We fight the lie with absolute transparency. Call a press conference for tomorrow morning at the Harbor Point site. Invite every major news network, the city council, and the environmental groups. And make sure Vanessa’s PR firm gets a front-row invitation."
