Chapter 17 - Eviction Notice

Patricia let out a blood-curdling scream as her son was forced to his knees by the arresting officers.
“This is her fault! She planned this! She’s destroying my family!” Patricia shrieked, trying to rush toward me.
Before she could reach me, Lena stepped firmly between us, her arms crossed, blocking Patricia’s path.
Attorney Melissa Grant casually pulled a final document from her leather briefcase and handed it directly to Patricia.
“You should read this carefully, Mrs. Hayes,” Melissa said smoothly.
Patricia blinked through her tears, looking down at the legal header.
“What... what is this?”
“That is an official Notice to Vacate,” Melissa explained.
Patricia’s breath hitched in her throat.
I stepped beside Melissa, looking down at my former mother-in-law with calm detachment.
“The luxury guesthouse you’ve been living in rent-free for the past year belongs to my private real estate trust,” I said softly.
“You have thirty days to surrender the keys.”
Patricia’s jaw dropped. She tried to speak, but no sound came out of her throat.
“And the lease on the luxury sedan you drove here today?” I added.
“It was terminated an hour ago. You’ll need to call a taxi to get home.”
