Richard Hayes slowly lowered his glass of scotch onto a nearby table, his face turning an unhealthy shade of grey as he looked at his son.

Derek pointed an accusing finger straight at my face, his knuckles white.

“You set me up!” he snarled, his voice rising in panic.

“You orchestrated this whole thing!”

“No, Derek,” I replied steadily.

“I gave you eighteen months of opportunities to stop hurting me. I gave you three months to put that loan application away. You chose to push forward every single time.”

“You’re my wife!” Derek roared.

“We are married! You can't do this to me!”

Patricia stormed toward us, her face contorted in fury.

“This family has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars hosting this wedding for you, you ungrateful girl!”

I almost laughed out loud.

“You didn't spend a single dime of your family's money, Patricia,” I revealed calmly into the mic.

“You spent my deposit.”
