Chapter 11 - The Vintage Recliner War

The hallway went dead quiet.
Denise's husband stared at Tessa in absolute disbelief.
Tessa puffed out her chest and hugged the chair cushion tighter against her ribs.
"She defied my boundaries!" Tessa spat out.
It was one of those incredible moments where you can watch strangers instantly realize how completely unhinged a family is.
Denise looked at my father, who was red-faced and huffing near the doorway.
Then she looked at Tessa, who was clutching a couch cushion like a shield.
Finally, she looked at me—standing there calm, quiet, and completely composed.
Instead of running out the door, Denise smiled.
"We would like to submit a formal cash offer today," Denise said smoothly.
"What?!" my mother gasped from the kitchen doorway.
"We love the house, the neighborhood, and the kitchen renovation," Denise added, eyeing my father.
"And we want the burgundy recliner included in the final contract."
Tessa let out a squeal of pure horror.
That evening, Denise submitted a cash offer that was thirty thousand dollars above our original asking price. Two other families submitted backup offers as well.
My family's embarrassing behavior had actually created a sense of urgency, making buyers realize they needed to act fast to secure the house.
I accepted Denise's offer immediately.
The contract was signed, the deposit was wired, and the thirty-day clock began ticking.
When I officially informed my parents that the house was legally sold, the reaction was explosive.
My mother burst into tears on the sofa.
My father threatened to hire a team of lawyers to sue me.
And Tessa produced a noise from her throat that sounded like a blender grinding metal.
"You sold my chair!" Tessa shrieked.
May you like
"I sold the real estate," I replied coolly.
"The chair was simply part of the deal."
