Chapter 18 - Vanessa's Flight

|

Inside the empty mansion, Vanessa ran frantically through the master bedroom, throwing her clothes into two large suitcases.

“I have to get out of here,” she muttered to herself, her tears smearing black mascara across her face. “I have to leave before they freeze my personal accounts.”

She pulled out her smartphone and logged into her private offshore banking app, intending to transfer her remaining emergency funds to an account in her maiden name.

A bright red notification popped up across the screen:

ACCOUNT ACCESS DENIED. ASSETS FROZEN BY COURT ORDER PENDING CIVIL FRAUD INVESTIGATION.

Vanessa screamed in frustration, throwing her phone against the bedroom wall, shattering the screen into dozens of pieces.

She grabbed her suitcases and rushed down the grand staircase, heading for the front entrance.

As she stepped out onto the porch, Thomas Vance was waiting for her, holding a fresh set of legal documents.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Thomas asked mildly.

“Get out of my way!” Vanessa spat, her voice trembling. “Victor is the one who hit her! I didn't touch her! You can't hold me here!”

“You are named as a co-conspirator in a civil suit filed by Mrs. Eleanor Hayes for corporate asset misuse and intentional infliction of emotional distress,” Thomas informed her coldly. “And since those clothes you are packing were purchased using Hayes Legacy Holdings funds, you will leave them right here.”

Two female security guards stepped forward and calmly pulled the suitcases from her hands.

Vanessa stood on the stone porch of the empty Bel Air mansion, dressed in a wrinkled satin gown, holding nothing but a broken phone, completely broke and alone.
