Chapter 10 - Dawn at Bel Air

At 5:42 AM, the sun had not yet risen over the canyon hills. A thick, grey mist hung over the Bel Air gates, keeping the street quiet and dark.
Inside the master bedroom of the grand mansion, Victor and Vanessa were fast asleep, exhausted from hours of late-night drinking and celebrating.
The heavy silence of the morning was shattered by the sharp, metallic crunch of heavy tires on the gravel driveway.
Three matte-black SUVs pulled through the security gates, followed by a white commercial moving van and two marked security vehicles. Ten men in crisp black uniforms stepped out onto the driveway, led by an older man in a navy blue suit holding a thick leather briefcase.
His name was Thomas Vance, the chief operations manager for Hayes Legacy Holdings.
Beside him stood two uniformed officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a certified court process server.
Thomas walked up the grand stone steps and pressed the heavy brass doorbell, holding his thumb down until the chime echoed through every floor of the house.
When no one answered, Thomas turned to the lead security officer.

“Override the smart locks,” Thomas commanded quietly. “Use the master corporate passkey.”
The officer pulled a sleek electronic keycard from his vest, tapped it against the digital scanner, and pushed the heavy mahogany doors wide open.
