Chapter 11 - Taped to the Mahogany

|

The loud electronic alarm chimed through the main hall.

Minutes later, heavy footsteps rushed down the grand staircase. Victor appeared at the top of the landing, wearing a black silk robe, his hair disheveled and his eyes bloodshot with sleep and confusion.

Vanessa followed right behind him, wrapping a white satin gown around herself, her face contorted with rage.

“What the hell is going on here?!” Victor roared, descending the stairs two at a time. “Who gave you permission to step into my house?! I will have every single one of you arrested!”

Thomas Vance didn't flinch. He stood in the middle of the foyer—the very spot where my blood had spilled six hours earlier—and held out a thick white envelope.

“Mr. Victor Hayes,” Thomas said coldly. “You are being formally served with an emergency order of eviction and asset revocation, effective immediately.”

Vanessa stomped down the stairs, snatching the envelope out of Thomas’s hand.

“Are you insane?!” she screamed, her voice echoing off the high ceilings. “My husband owns this property! Get your filthy security guards out of our home before I call the police!”

The Sheriff's deputy stepped forward, resting his hand calmly on his belt holster.

“Ma'am, we are the police,” the deputy said firmly. “And this property does not belong to your husband.”

Victor’s face drained of color as he took the papers from Vanessa’s hands. He tore open the heavy envelope, his eyes scanning the first page.
