Chapter 35 - The Fall of the Heiress

The press corps erupted in a frenzy of shouted questions, but I held up a hand, demanding silence.
I pulled a thick, sealed manila envelope from inside my jacket.
"As of 9:00 AM this morning," I announced, looking directly at the cameras, "my legal team formally submitted a comprehensive, undeniable cyber-forensics report to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Southern District of New York."
Sabrina physically stumbled, her composure completely shattering. One of her attorneys desperately grabbed her arm, whispering frantically in her ear, trying to pull her toward the exit.
"This report," I continued, raising my voice to cut through the rising chaos, "contains irrefutable digital evidence proving that Sabrina Croft, who is standing in this very room, actively orchestrated and facilitated the massive embezzlement scheme for which Julian Vance is currently serving a federal prison sentence."
Pandemonium broke out. The cameras immediately swiveled away from me, a hundred flashing lenses suddenly focused entirely on Sabrina's terrified, pale face.
"Furthermore," I shouted over the noise, ensuring every word was captured on record, "the evidence proves that Ms. Croft committed egregious perjury during a federal investigation to falsely secure her own immunity. The forged blackmail documents she attempted to use against me have been handed over to the authorities as evidence of ongoing extortion."
Sabrina didn't try to defend herself. She didn't shout a denial. She simply turned and bolted for the glass doors, desperately shoving past a bewildered reporter in a frantic attempt to escape the flashing cameras and the sudden, suffocating reality of her total destruction.
Her attorneys abandoned her instantly, disappearing into the crowd to distance themselves from a client who was clearly about to be federally indicted.
I stepped back from the podium, watching the chaotic scene unfold with a profound sense of absolute, unshakeable calm. The predator had become the prey, caught entirely in a trap of her own making.
I felt a warm hand slip quietly into mine.
Elena had walked up behind me, stepping out of the shadows of the lobby. I squeezed her hand tightly, pulling her close against my side.

"It's over," Elena whispered, tears of profound relief shining in her beautiful eyes. "It's really over."
"Yes," I agreed, looking out at the stunned crowd, and then up at the architectural renderings of the homes we were going to build. "The foundation is finally clean."
