Chapter 33 - The Ghost in the Machine

For the next eighteen hours, our penthouse transformed into a war room.
David, fueled by an alarming amount of espresso, sat at the dining room table surrounded by three glowing monitors, typing furiously. Elena and I reviewed thousands of pages of redacted financial disclosures, searching for any anomaly, any missing thread that connected Sabrina to the Cayman accounts.
At 6:00 AM, with only four hours remaining until Sabrina's deadline, David let out a sharp, triumphant laugh.
"Gotcha, you arrogant sociopath," David whispered, leaning back in his chair and rubbing his bloodshot eyes.
"What did you find?" I demanded, rushing over to the screens.
David pointed a trembling finger at a complex algorithmic chart.
"Sabrina was smart. She scrubbed her name, her personal accounts, and her family's corporate entities from every single transfer Julian made," David explained rapidly. "But she made one massive, ego-driven mistake. She didn't use a random proxy server to route the final shell company incorporation documents. She used the private, encrypted server hosted at her family's vacation estate in Aspen."
"Are you absolutely certain?" Elena asked, leaning over my shoulder.
"I just pinged the IP address buried in the metadata of the original incorporation PDF," David confirmed, tapping the keyboard. "It pings straight back to a router registered to 'Croft Holdings Estate.' She facilitated the entire embezzlement scheme from her living room couch."
I stared at the screen, a fierce, victorious adrenaline rushing through my veins.
"It's not just proof she was involved," I realized, the magnitude of the discovery hitting me. "It's proof she committed perjury during a federal investigation. She lied to the FBI under oath."
"If you hand this to the Southern District," David grinned, "she's looking at twenty years for conspiracy and perjury, minimum."
I checked my watch. 7:30 AM.
"Print everything," I ordered David. "Triple encrypt the digital files and send them to Marcus. Tell him to draft a comprehensive brief for the federal prosecutor, but do not file it yet."

"Arthur, what are you doing?" Elena asked, concern lacing her voice. "We have the proof. Let the authorities handle her."
"I am going to handle her," I said, grabbing my coat. "Sabrina wants a press conference at ten. I'm going to give her exactly what she asked for."
