Chapter 8 - The True Purpose of the Protocol

|

“You bitch,” Adrian breathed, the realization fully washing over him. He was trapped in a house with fake hostages, surrounded by attack dogs, with his entire plan crumbling into dust.

But he didn't know the worst of it yet.

The titanium bracelet on my wrist had not merely opened the exterior kennels. That was just a localized, physical response.

The button had triggered my ultimate duress protocol.

The moment I pressed it, every single hidden, high-fidelity microphone embedded in the library’s crown molding had instantly activated. They were currently recording every footstep, every panicked breath, and every single threat, streaming the encrypted audio directly to an off-site, impenetrable server located three states away.

Furthermore, the heavy iron exterior gates of the estate, which Adrian had assumed were locked behind him, had automatically swung wide open and locked into place to allow emergency vehicle access.

Simultaneously, my private security company headquarters had received a silent, level-one alarm. The alert contained my exact GPS location inside the house, my real-time biometric stress data, and a prewritten, highly specific message: FAMILY EXTORTION. ARMED SUSPECTS. ANIMAL ASSAULT.

“I am going to kill you,” Adrian whispered, stepping toward me again, his shadow falling over my face. “I don't care about the company anymore. I will snap your neck.”

“And because you spent the last eight months trying to declare me legally incompetent to remove me from my own company,” I continued, entirely ignoring his death threat, “I prepared one additional, very specific legal detail.”

He stopped, his heavy breathing filling the space between us.

“Those transfer papers you so desperately want signed?” I asked, nodding toward the floor where the folder lay open.

He looked down at them, then back at me. “What about them?”

“They’re completely worthless.”
