Chapter 16 - The Foundation

|
The trauma of that night didn't break me; it catalyzed a massive shift in my corporate focus.
While Vale Meridian continued to dominate the logistics and software sectors, I took a large portion of my newly secured personal wealth and launched The Atlas Foundation.
It was a massive philanthropic initiative dedicated to funding cutting-edge mobility technology for the visually impaired. We poured millions into advanced spatial-mapping software and wearable sonar tech that Adrian would have undoubtedly mocked as "toys."
More importantly, the foundation aggressively funded elite guide-dog training programs, ensuring that animals like Atlas received the highest level of care, training, and placement without placing a financial burden on the disabled individuals who desperately needed them.
But my favorite branch of the foundation was the legal defense fund. We provided absolute, pro-bono, bulldog legal support for disabled entrepreneurs and business owners facing financial coercion, hostile takeovers, or abuse from family members attempting to exploit their conditions.
I became a phantom guardian angel for people exactly like me, weaponizing my lawyers to destroy anyone who thought a disability equated to a lack of intelligence or power.
And as for the six elite security dogs who had guarded the hallway that night?
They officially retired from active corporate duty. They now lived full-time on my massive, newly renovated estate, spoiled absolutely beyond reason. They had their own climate-controlled wing, a dedicated live-in handler, and a massive private park to roam. Adrian’s nightmare had become their paradise.

I reached down toward the grass, my fingers easily finding the familiar, soft velvet of Atlas’s ears. He leaned his heavy head into my palm, letting out a long, contented sigh.
For years, people in boardrooms and magazines had praised me for succeeding despite my blindness, as if it were a heavy chain I was dragging behind me.
