Chapter 47 - The Bloodline Clause

"Don't you look at her," Hannah hissed, her voice vibrating with a fierce, maternal rage. She stepped back toward the kitchen doors, her hand resting on the heavy wooden handle of a chef's knife on the prep counter.
Victor reached into his designer coat and pulled out a thick, legal dossier bound in red tape, dropping it onto the nearest table with a heavy thud.
"When my brother died in that federal penitentiary, his personal assets were liquidated," Victor explained, taking a slow step forward. "But the overarching Holloway Family Trust remained entirely intact. It is a sovereign entity. And according to the foundational bylaws established by my father, the primary trust—worth nearly eighty million dollars—automatically transfers to the first-born heir of the next generation."
My blood ran completely cold.
"Maya is an heir," Victor continued, his eyes gleaming with malicious intent. "But the trust dictates that the heir must be raised within the estate, under the direct guardianship of the acting patriarch. That is me. If you refuse to surrender guardianship of that child, the trust mandates the complete, systematic financial destruction of the mother's assets."
"You are out of your mind," I spat, my heart pounding a frantic rhythm against my ribs. "You have no legal right to my granddaughter. I will kill you before you lay a finger on her."
May you like
"I don't need to touch her today, Evelyn," Victor sneered, tapping the dossier. "I bought the commercial land your little diner sits on last night. The holding company is mine. You have forty-eight hours to sign the guardianship transfer, or I will raze this building to the ground and bury you in a legal war that will leave you starving in the streets."
He turned on his heel, his security detail falling in perfectly behind him. "Tick-tock, Evelyn. The clock has started."
