Chapter 17 - The Expansion

With Grant in federal prison and the lease permanently secured in my name, Carter’s Table experienced a massive boom in business. The locals, having followed the trial, flocked to the diner in a show of unwavering support.
"We need more space, Mom," Hannah said one afternoon, wiping sweat from her forehead as she looked at a line of customers spilling out onto the sidewalk.
"I was thinking the exact same thing," I said, pulling a folded blueprint from my apron pocket.
Hannah unrolled it on the counter. It was a schematic for the vacant storefront right next door.
"I bought the property this morning," I smiled. "We're knocking down the adjoining wall. We're doubling the kitchen and adding ten more booths."

"No," I corrected her. "We did it."
