Chapter 15 - The Verdict
The jury deliberated for less than four hours.
When they filed back into the jury box, the foreman didn't even look at Grant.
"On the counts of wire fraud, consumer fraud, and conspiracy to commit fraud, we find the defendant... Guilty."
Margaret let out a sharp, pathetic wail from the gallery, burying her face in her hands. Grant just stared straight ahead, entirely hollowed out.
The judge didn't waste time. "Mr. Holloway, your flagrant disregard for public safety and corporate ethics is appalling. I sentence you to forty-eight months in federal prison, with no possibility of early parole."

The bailiff stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. The click of the metal echoing in the silent courtroom was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard.
I reached out and squeezed Hannah's hand. "It's over," I whispered.
