Chapter 21 - One Year Later

A year passed, smoothing the rough edges of our trauma into a distant memory.
The expansion of Carter’s Table was a massive success. The new dining room was bright and airy, filled with the sounds of clinking silverware and loud, booming laughter.
Hannah had thrived. She managed the front of the house with a natural, effortless grace, remembering regular customers' orders and greeting everyone with a warm, genuine smile. The shadow of the Holloway estate had completely vanished from her eyes.
I stood by the coffee machine, watching her laugh with a table of construction workers.

"She’s doing better than good, Frank," I smiled, feeling a deep, profound peace settle in my bones. "She’s finally free."
