Chapter 13 - The True Protector

|

The sound of Marcus’s fist connecting with David’s face echoed like a gunshot in the pristine marble lobby.

David crumpled to the floor instantly, groaning in a pool of his own blood, clutching his shattered jaw. The concierges looked away, entirely unfazed. In Ethan Whitfield’s building, Ethan Whitfield was the law.

Grace gasped, freezing in her tracks.

Ethan looked down at the pathetic, bleeding man on the floor.

"You are going to listen to me very carefully, David," Ethan whispered, his voice vibrating with a dark, lethal authority that made the hairs on the back of Grace's neck stand up. "If you ever speak her name again, if you ever look in the direction of her son, or if you ever contact a single member of the press..."

Ethan leaned forward in his chair, his dark eyes burning with absolute, unforgiving violence.

"I will not just ruin you," Ethan promised. "I will erase you. I will use a fraction of my wealth to ensure you disappear into a dark hole where absolutely no one will ever find you. Nod if you understand."

David, weeping and spitting blood, nodded frantically.

"Throw him in the alley," Ethan commanded his security team. "If he returns, you don't need my permission to end him."

The guards dragged the sobbing man out the revolving doors.

Ethan turned his wheelchair around, facing Grace. The murderous aura vanished in a microsecond, replaced by profound, gentle concern. He wheeled over to her, reaching out to take her trembling hands in his.

"He will never hurt you again," Ethan vowed softly. "I promise you, Grace. The monsters can't touch you here."

Grace dropped to her knees on the marble floor right in front of his chair, completely ignoring the remaining staff in the lobby. She buried her face in his lap, weeping tears of pure, overwhelming relief. She had fought alone for so long. She had carried the weight of the world on her shoulders to protect her son.

And now, this brilliant, fierce, beautiful man had stepped in front of the storm for her.

Ethan gently stroked her hair, his strong hands anchoring her to reality.

"I love you," Grace choked out into his sweater, the truth finally breaking free from the confines of their fake contract. "I love you, Ethan."

Ethan’s breath caught. He leaned down, lifting her chin, and kissed her with a desperate, consuming passion right there in the lobby, proving to everyone watching that the billionaire and the maid were no longer a PR stunt. They were a kingdom.
