If they couldn't dismiss the video, they decided to justify it. The media circus began a week before the trial. Anonymous sources began leaking fabricated stories to the tabloids, painting me as an unstable, violent wife who had driven her successful husband to the brink of madness.

I sat in Ms. Sterling’s office, staring at a stack of tabloid magazines on her desk.
"They're trying to poison the jury pool," Sterling explained, pacing the room. "It's the oldest trick in the billionaire playbook. They want the jury to watch that video and think, 'Well, she must have done something to deserve it.'"
"How is this legal?" I asked, tears of frustration stinging my eyes. "They're lying about everything."
"It's not about what's true; it's about what casts reasonable doubt," Sterling said, stopping to look at me. "Rachel, they are going to put you on the stand, and they are going to gut you. They will ask about your past, your mental health, your marriage. They will try to make you snap in front of the judge."
"Let them," I said, my voice hardening into steel.
