Chapter 19 - The First Cries

|

Two months later, the quiet peace of the penthouse was shattered by a sudden, agonizing scream.

Damian burst into the bedroom, dropping a glass of water onto the carpet. Charlotte was doubled over, clutching her massive stomach, her face pale with pain.

“They’re coming,” she gasped, gripping the bedpost. “Damian, my water broke.”

Panic, an emotion Damian had conquered years ago, seized his entire body. “Marco! Get the medical team up here! Now!”

The penthouse had been equipped with a state-of-the-art medical suite specifically for this moment. Within minutes, the private syndicate doctors were rushing Charlotte down the hall, transferring her to a sterile delivery bed.

Damian refused to leave her side. He wore a sterile gown, holding her hand so tightly his knuckles were white.

“You’re doing perfectly, my love,” Damian whispered, kissing her sweaty forehead. “You’re so strong.”

“It hurts,” Charlotte cried, crushing his hand during a massive contraction. “I can't do it!”

“Yes, you can,” Damian urged, his voice thick with emotion. “Push, Charlotte. Bring our babies home.”

After four grueling, exhausting hours, the medical suite echoed with a sound that brought the ruthless mafia king to his knees.

A sharp, piercing cry filled the air.

“It’s a boy,” Dr. Reyes smiled, quickly cleaning the infant and handing him to a nurse.

Minutes later, a second, equally loud cry joined the first.

“And a beautiful girl,” the doctor announced.

Charlotte fell back against the pillows, sobbing with pure relief and exhaustion. Damian was weeping openly, tears streaming down his face as the nurses handed him two small, swaddled bundles.

He carefully brought them to Charlotte, laying the babies on her chest.

Charlotte looked down at the tiny, perfect faces of her children. The boy had Damian’s dark hair, and the girl had her nose.

“We did it,” Charlotte whispered, kissing the top of the boy’s head.

“They’re perfect,” Damian choked out, burying his face in Charlotte’s neck. “Thank you. Thank you.”
