On my fortieth birthday, the Willow & Stone team organized a surprise dinner in the commercial kitchen. The long central table, adorned with ivory cloths and green glass candleholders, bore a striking resemblance to the fateful birthday party I had planned for Connor.
But this time, the atmosphere was different. There was genuine joy, shared laughter, and a palpable sense of camaraderie. I sat at the head of the table, surrounded by people who valued me not for what I could provide, but for who I was.
My mother raised a glass of champagne. "To the woman who finally learned that being needed is not the same as being loved."
