Chapter 10 - The Encounter

Following the hearing, I encountered Judith in the courthouse corridor. Her face, etched with a mixture of anger and despair, reflected the crumbling of her carefully constructed world.
"You have taken everything from him," she accused, her voice trembling.
"No," I replied, my tone steady. "The court took nothing he was entitled to keep."
"He lost his job."
"Because of his conduct."
"He lost his marriage."
"He ended it beside the pool."
Her eyes filled with tears, a fleeting glimpse of the vulnerable woman beneath the tyrannical facade. "I raised him alone," she whispered. "I gave him everything."
"You taught him that love meant protecting him from consequences," I gently pointed out.
She flinched, the truth of my words striking a chord.

"You can still love him," I added. "But if you keep blaming everyone else, he will never change."
We parted ways, leaving behind the remnants of a fractured relationship. There was no triumphant music, no public collapse, only the quiet satisfaction of a hard-won freedom.
