Chapter 2 : The Shattered Facade

Chapter 2 : The Shattered Facade
The sound of the woman’s heels—now frantic and uneven—clattered against the marble like gunfire. As she lunged for the console, the lobby erupted into chaos. The technician, a young man named Elias, didn't cower; he slammed his hand down on a red override button, locking the digital files and triggering a local backup.

"Security! Stop her!" Sarah screamed, her voice cracking under the adrenaline.
The security guard, now fully aware that the ‘untouchable’ woman was nothing more than a desperate criminal, tackled her just inches from the server rack. She clawed at the air, her tailored blue suit jacket tearing at the seam. "You don't know what you're doing!" she shrieked, her mask of composure completely incinerated. "If this gets out, it’s not just me! It’s the entire foundation of this firm!"
Sarah stood frozen, her hand resting protectively over her abdomen. The baby shifted, a tiny, grounding reminder of what was truly at stake. As the woman was pinned to the floor, she glared at Sarah with a venom that made the air feel cold.
"You think this is a victory?" the woman spat, her mascara running in dark, jagged lines down her cheeks. "I am a pawn, Sarah. You’ve just kicked over a beehive. You have no idea who you are dealing with."

Sarah took a step forward, her fear crystallizing into a resolve she didn't know she possessed. "I know exactly who I’m dealing with now," Sarah replied, her voice steady. "A coward who hides behind policies and blind spots. But the light is on now. There’s nowhere left to hide."
The police sirens began to wail in the distance, cutting through the heavy tension. The lobby, once a place of career-driven ambition, had become a crime scene. But as the officers flooded in, Sarah realized with a sinking heart that the woman’s words were not just an empty threat. The woman wasn't looking at the officers with fear—she was looking at her phone, which had buzzed incessantly on the floor. She wasn't just covering up a shove; she was the architect of a systemic embezzlement scheme that reached the highest floors of the corporate tower.
