Chapter 11 - The Black Sedan

Two days later, Liam saw it.

He was working on a boat engine at the docks when a sleek, black sedan with heavily tinted windows rolled slowly down the main promenade. It was a vehicle built for armored transit, completely alien in a town of rusted pickup trucks.

Mateo stopped pulling his nets and spat on the ground.

"Trouble," Mateo grunted.

"Take the rest of the day off, Mateo," Liam said, not taking his eyes off the car.

"You need me to get the boys?" Mateo asked, gesturing to the other fishermen who were already eyeing the sedan with hostility.

"No. This is my mess," Liam replied, wiping the grease from his hands with a rag. "Just keep everyone away from the south cliff."

The sedan parked near the town square. Two men stepped out. They wore casual clothes, but their posture gave them away—ex-military, highly trained, scanning the sightlines.

Liam slipped away through the narrow alleys, moving like a ghost. He needed to get to the school. He needed to get Lily before they figured out where she was.
