Chapter 12 - The Boardroom Massacre

|

Thursday morning, I arrived at Mercer Innovations—which I had swiftly rebranded to Hale Capital Group.

I walked into the massive glass boardroom. The executive team was already seated, looking terrified. They had spent the last forty-eight hours watching their beloved CEO get ousted by a mysterious majority shareholder.

I sat at the head of the table.

"Good morning, everyone," I said, my voice echoing in the quiet room. "As you know, there has been a significant restructuring in ownership. I am Morgan Hale, the new CEO."

I opened my leather portfolio.

"Let’s get straight to business. I have reviewed the operational budget. For the past two years, this company has been bleeding capital through two highly paid 'consulting' roles held by Diane and Brooke Mercer. Roles that produced absolutely zero deliverables."

The CFO, a nervous man named Todd, swallowed hard. "Grant insisted they were vital to our marketing strategy, Ms. Hale."

"They were vital to his personal peace," I corrected. "They are officially terminated. I also want a full audit of every vendor invoice approved by Grant over the last twenty-four months. If I find a single dollar out of place, the executives who signed off on it will be joining him in the unemployment line."

The room was dead silent. I wasn't just taking the company; I was sanitizing it.

"Furthermore," I continued, closing the portfolio. "The company will be pursuing civil litigation against Diane and Brooke Mercer to recover the stolen funds. Have legal draft the lawsuits by the end of the day."

I stood up, adjusting my blazer.

"Welcome to the new era of this company. Get to work."
