Chapter 5 - Shattered Glass

Simone moved with terrifying speed, stepping directly between Nathan and Claire.

She placed her hands on Claire’s shoulders, gently pulling my trembling daughter behind the safety of the marble kitchen island.

Marcus stood six-foot-four, dressed in a sharp black suit, his physical presence dominating the room. He planted his feet and crossed his arms, his eyes fixed on Nathan.

I walked into the house smoothly, my phone raised, the 911 dispatcher still listening on the speaker line.

Nathan took a step back, startled, but then he recognized me. The panic in his eyes instantly morphed back into his familiar, toxic swagger.

“What the hell is this?” Nathan demanded, trying to puff out his chest. “You broke into my house! Evelyn, have you lost your mind? I’m calling the police!”

“You don't need to,” I replied calmly, setting my phone on the counter. “I already called them. They’ll be here in three minutes.”

Lorraine strutted forward, her diamond earrings jingling. “This is ridiculous! Break and enter! You can’t just march into my son’s home with hired thugs!”

“The house belongs to the Grant Family Trust, Lorraine,” I said softly. “Your son doesn't own a single brick of this building. But that isn't why we entered.”

I pointed to my phone screen, which was currently displaying the video I had taken moments earlier.

“We entered because we watched your son assault my daughter.”

Lorraine sneered, dabbing a speck of caviar from her lip with a cloth napkin. “Claire is dramatic. She slipped on the floor. Nathan was merely helping her up.”

Nathan adjusted his collar, trying to regain his composure. He looked at me with cold, arrogant eyes.

“A domestic argument won't save your precious daughter, Evelyn,” Nathan sneered. “And it certainly won't save your little company from a massive wrongful-termination suit. I have leverage you can’t even imagine.”

I stared at him. That single statement revealed everything.

Only someone who knew the truth about the shell company would know his dismissal was connected to Grant Meridian’s executive board.

Lorraine had shared internal corporate secrets with him. They were in it together.
