Assistant District Attorney Marcus Vance reviewed the extortion email, the cloud evidence Claire had retrieved, and the video of the domestic assault.

“Mr. Vale has handed us a complete conviction on a silver platter,” ADA Vance said, leaning back in his leather chair. “Extortion, grand larceny, commercial bribery, and computer fraud.”

“When do we arrest him?” I asked.

“We could arrest him tonight,” Vance replied. “But if we let him walk into a formal settlement meeting and verbally demand the money while attempting to use the stolen corporate documents as leverage... we secure an open-and-shut case that no defense attorney in America can break.”

“A sting operation,” Dana said.

“Precisely,” Vance nodded. “We set up a confidential settlement meeting for Friday morning at Grant Meridian headquarters. We let him bring his mother, bring his demands, and lay his stolen files right on the table.”

I looked at Claire, who was sitting across the room beside Sarah Vance.

“Are you strong enough for this, Claire?” I asked gently. “You don't have to be in the room.”

Claire sat up straight, her chin raised high, her dark eyes flashing with newfound strength.

“I want to be there,” Claire stated firmly. “I want him to see me standing beside you when he falls.”
