Madison stared at the bank statements in my hand, her eyes wide with shock. “Dad... is that true? Did you use the company’s emergency loan to pay for my dress?”
“I did what I had to do to give you the wedding you deserved!” Dad shouted desperately, his face turning a deep purple. “Claire has millions! She could have covered the business with a wave of her hand!”
“It was never my job to finance your lies,” I snapped back.
Daniel pulled a second document from his folder and handed a copy to my father.
“Furthermore, Mr. Mercer,” Daniel stated coldly, “because you committed wire fraud by submitting false operating expense reports to maintain that credit line, the bank’s legal team has already scheduled a mandatory default hearing for Monday morning at nine o'clock.”
Dad took the paper with trembling hands. “A default hearing? They’re going to call the entire loan balance?”
“Every single penny,” Daniel confirmed. “Including the primary mortgage refinancing on your residential home, which was cross-collateralized with the business assets.”
Mom gasped, staggering backward until her back hit the wall. “Our house? They can take our house?”
“If the business defaults, yes,” Daniel replied without a shred of sympathy.
Trevor looked at Madison, then at my parents, his expression transforming from confusion to absolute disgust. “You people are completely broke. You’ve been faking it this whole time.”
“Trevor, baby, no!” Madison cried, reaching out for him. “My dad will fix it! Tell him you’ll fix it, Dad!”

Before Dad could respond, a hotel valet hurried down the corridor toward our group, holding a clipboard and looking flustered.
“Excuse me, Ms. Bennett?” the valet asked, looking around until his eyes met mine. “There’s an issue with the silver Mercedes outside.”
