Chapter 13 - Unraveling the Groom

|
While Dad was fighting off banks and angry relatives, Madison’s brand-new marriage was unraveling at record speed.
Trevor, realizing that he had hitched his wagon to a family buried under mountains of debt rather than sitting on millions, spent the week searching through Madison’s personal financial accounts.
What he found was the final nail in the coffin.
Madison had hidden over forty thousand dollars in personal credit card debt spread across six store cards—debt accrued from buying designer shoes, luxury clothes, and spa weekends to maintain her social media image.
On Friday morning, six days after the wedding, Trevor walked into his attorney’s office and filed for an immediate marriage annulment on the grounds of financial fraud and misrepresentation.
I was sitting in a local coffee shop working on a client presentation when my phone screen lit up with an incoming text from Trevor.
Trevor: Claire, I’m so sorry for how I spoke to you at the wedding. I had no idea your dad and Madison were pulling this scam. I filed for annulment today. Is there any way you can help me clear my name with that restaurant investor?
I looked at the text, feeling a cold rush of satisfaction.
I typed back a brief response:
You made your choice at the head table, Trevor. Good luck with your annulment.
I blocked his number immediately.
An hour later, Madison posted a hysterical, rambling video on her social media, crying about how Trevor had abandoned her and how her sister had destroyed her life.

Within thirty minutes, the comment section filled up with harsh responses from wedding guests who had witnessed her pull my hair and assault me on the dance floor.
She deleted the video, but the damage was done. The whole world saw her for exactly what she was.
