Chapter 28 - Finding Noah's Anchor

While Victor’s desperate legal maneuvers were swiftly crushed by Rebecca’s aggressive counter-filings, a much more pressing emotional challenge arose at the center. The social workers assigned to Noah’s case had finally located a viable biological relative.
It was his maternal aunt, Sarah. She lived in Michigan, completely unaware that her sister had passed away or that she had a nephew sitting in our temporary housing facility.
Lily arranged a video call between Noah and his Aunt Sarah in the main office. I stood by the door, watching as Noah sat nervously in the large leather chair, his hands gripping the armrests tightly.
When Sarah’s face appeared on the screen, she immediately burst into tears. She looked remarkably like Noah’s mother, possessing the same gentle eyes and soft smile.
"Oh, Noah," Sarah wept, pressing her hand to the screen. "You are so beautiful. I have been looking for your mother for years. I am so incredibly sorry I wasn't there."
Noah stared at the screen, his initial terror slowly melting into profound curiosity.
"Do you have a house?" Noah asked, his voice barely a whisper.
"I do," Sarah smiled through her tears. "I have a house with a big backyard, and a golden retriever named Buster. And I have a room that is entirely yours, whenever you are ready to come home."
Lily knelt beside Noah’s chair, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"She seems very nice, Noah," Lily said softly. "She wants to take care of you."
Noah looked up at Lily, his expression deeply conflicted.
"But if I go to Michigan, I won't live here anymore," Noah realized, tears welling in his eyes. "I won't be with you."

"You won't live in this house," Lily agreed gently, wiping a tear from his cheek. "But you will always, always be a part of our family. This center is just a bridge, Noah. Your aunt is the destination. You are ready to cross over."
Noah looked back at the screen, slowly lifting his hand to wave at the woman who represented his entirely new beginning.
