Chapter 25 - The Blueprint Reality

With the Dayton house running smoothly and Chloe slowly integrating into the chaotic family dynamic of the center, Lily finally turned her attention back to her father's portfolio. She spent hours in her office, studying the intricate lines and mathematical calculations Daniel had drafted decades ago.
One evening, I found her sitting on the floor, completely surrounded by large sheets of graphing paper.
"Are you redecorating?" I asked, stepping carefully over a sketch of a massive, wrap-around porch.
"I'm translating," Lily smiled, looking up with a smudge of graphite on her nose. "Dad’s designs are beautiful, but they were drafted before modern building codes and accessibility standards. I am updating his blueprints for the community center he wanted to build on the east side."
I looked at the complex drawings, amazed by the sheer technical skill involved.
"Are you planning on actually building it?"
"Yes," Lily said confidently. "I spoke with the city planning commission this morning. They are offering a massive grant for urban revitalization projects in that district. If I submit these updated blueprints, the Daniel Mercer Foundation could secure the funding to break ground by next spring."
She pointed to the center of the drawing, highlighting a large, open courtyard filled with trees and natural light.
"He designed this space specifically to foster community healing," Lily explained, her voice thick with pride. "He wanted to build places where people felt safe enough to actually talk to each other. He was a visionary, Mom. The world just never gave him the chance to prove it."

"He proved it to you," I reminded her, sitting down on the floor beside her. "And now you are going to prove it to the rest of the world. What are you going to call the new center?"
"The Mercer Courtyard," Lily smiled, looking down at her father’s beautiful, resurrected dream. "A place where the light always gets in."
