Chapter 11 - The Breach

|

The wailing sirens pierced the quiet luxury of the mansion, accompanied by the frantic, flashing red strobe lights of the emergency lockdown system.

Victor’s romantic tenderness vanished in a microsecond. The lethal syndicate boss snapped back into existence. He grabbed Lena’s arm, hauling her toward the center of the room away from the massive windows.

"Boss!" Dmitri’s voice crackled violently over the radio on Victor’s belt. "We have a massive perimeter breach! Three heavily armored transport trucks just smashed through the front gates. The Volkovs are here. They brought an army."

"Hold the main doors," Victor barked into the radio, drawing a heavy, custom 1911 pistol from his shoulder holster. "Deploy the heavy weapons team to the roof. Do not let them enter the foyer."

Gunfire erupted outside, the sharp, rapid cracks of automatic weapons echoing through the stone walls of the mansion.

"Come with me," Victor ordered, grabbing Lena’s hand and dragging her toward the back of the drawing room.

He pressed a hidden button beneath the mantelpiece. The heavy bookshelf swung open silently, revealing a dark, narrow corridor.

"What is happening?" Lena panicked, stumbling over her own feet as he pulled her into the darkness.

"Clara’s father didn't wait for my response. He and the Russians launched a preemptive strike," Victor explained, his voice tight with controlled fury. "They want to wipe me out before I can retaliate. We are going to the safe room."

They sprinted down a set of concrete stairs deep into the foundation of the estate. The sounds of the firefight above grew muffled, but the vibration of explosives shook dust from the ceiling onto their heads.

Victor punched a complex code into a heavy steel vault door. It hissed open, revealing a stark, windowless room equipped with monitors, communication gear, and an arsenal of weapons.

He shoved her inside and slammed the heavy door shut, engaging the deadbolts. The silence inside the bunker was absolute, a terrifying contrast to the war raging above.

Lena collapsed against the cold steel wall, gasping for air, her entire body shaking uncontrollably.

"We are trapped," she whispered, tears of pure terror spilling over her cheeks. "They are going to kill us."

Victor walked over to the weapon rack, grabbing a tactical shotgun and loading it with mechanical, terrifying precision. He looked back at her, his dark eyes burning with an unholy, protective fire.

"They have to get through a foot of reinforced steel to reach this room," Victor stated coldly. "And if they manage to breach that door, they have to get through me. Nobody is touching you tonight, Lena. I swear it on my life."
