Chapter 5 - RAIN OF LEAD|

Before Enzo could press Rocco further, the heavy glass floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse suite shattered inward with a violent, deafening explosion.

BOOM!

Heavy tactical smoke grenades rolled across the marble floor, spewing thick, grey chemical smoke into the room.

"Sniper! Down!" Tomaso shouted, throwing himself over Enzo.

Automatic rifle fire shredded through the velvet curtains and mahogany furniture. Heavy caliber rounds punched through the drywall, turning the luxurious suite into a warzone within seconds.

"They brought heavy ordnance!" a guard yelled before a round caught him in the chest, knocking him flat onto his back.

I dropped to the floor, covering my head as wood splinters and glass rained down around me. Smoke filled my lungs, making me cough violently as my eyes burned with tears.

Through the grey haze, I saw Rocco struggling against his plastic zip-ties, screaming toward the shattered window. "Over here! Finish him!"

Enzo didn't panic. He pulled a heavy sleek handgun from under his arm, rose to his knee, and fired three precise shots through the smoke toward the balcony.

A heavy body slammed against the glass railing outside before plunging nineteen stories into the courtyard below.

Enzo grabbed my arm, dragging me across the floor toward the rear service door of the suite. "Tomaso! Leave Rocco! We move now!"

"You can't leave me here, Enzo!" Rocco shrieked in sheer terror as another volley of bullets tore through the armchair next to him. "They're clearing the whole floor! They'll kill me too!"

Enzo paused at the service door, looking back at Rocco with cold indifference.

"Numbers don't lie, Rocco," Enzo said flatly. "And neither does karma."
