Chapter 19 - THE NEW DAWN|

One month later.

The morning sun shone brightly over the private estate in the hills of Long Island.

I sat on the sunlit veranda, wearing a comfortable white cashmere sweater, drinking coffee while reading the front page of the New York Times.

The headline read: MASSIVE FEDERAL INDICTMENTS SHAKE TRI-STATE POLITICS: SENATOR FALCONE AND ASSOCIATES FACING LIFE SENTENCES.

My father’s name, Hector Duarte, was printed in bold black ink on the front page, honored as a courageous state hero who had brought down an empire of corruption from beyond the grave.

Footsteps sounded on the stone patio.

Enzo walked out, wearing a dark navy suit without a tie, carrying a small wooden jewelry box. He looked relaxed, powerful, and completely at peace.

He set the box on the table before sitting down across from me.

"What's this?" I asked, looking at the polished mahogany box.

"A gift," Enzo smiled, pushing it toward me. "From the Marciano family board. They officially voted yesterday to name you the managing director of our legitimate international shipping foundation."

I opened the box. Inside lay my father's old gold pocket watch—restored, polished, and ticking with perfect, rhythmic precision.

Tears welled up in my eyes. I lifted the watch, feeling its smooth weight in my palm. "How did you find this?"

"I bought back every asset seized from your mother's house eight years ago," Enzo said softly, reaching across the table to wrap his fingers around mine. "You are no longer a maid scrubbing other people's mirrors, Amelia. You are my partner. Equal in every way."

I looked at him, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace settle into my chest for the first time in eight years.

"We did it, Enzo," I smiled, holding his hand tightly. "It's finally over."
