Chapter 24: The Unseen Blade

Six months into my reign, the vultures began to circle.

Marcus Sterling, the CEO of our largest rival firm, mistook my restructuring for weakness. He launched a hostile, highly aggressive smear campaign, leaking fabricated financial doubts to the press in an attempt to trigger a shareholder panic and orchestrate a hostile takeover.

He thought he was playing against a rookie. He forgot that I learned the game in the trenches.

Instead of issuing defensive press releases, I invited Marcus to a private lunch at an exclusive, glass-walled restaurant overlooking the financial district.

He arrived with a smug, victorious grin, wearing a bespoke suit and an air of absolute certainty.

"Elena, darling," Marcus said, taking a sip of his sparkling water. "The market is volatile. Your stock is dipping. I’m prepared to offer a very generous buyout. It's the only way to save your legacy."

I didn't touch my menu. I simply slid a sleek, black folder across the table.

"Open it," I commanded.

Marcus chuckled condescendingly, but he opened the folder. His smile vanished instantly.

Inside were high-resolution photographs, offshore bank routing numbers, and signed affidavits from his own board members. It was absolute, irrefutable proof of his ongoing embezzlement from his own company's pension fund.

"You've spent the last month trying to convince the world my house is made of straw," I said, my voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "While completely forgetting your house is made of glass."

Marcus went pale, dropping the folder as if it were on fire. "You wouldn't."

"The email containing those files is currently scheduled to send to the SEC, the FBI, and the Wall Street Journal in exactly ten minutes," I stated, checking my watch. "Unless you publicly withdraw your buyout offer, issue a formal apology, and step down as CEO of your firm effective by midnight."

He stared at me, sheer terror replacing his arrogance. "You're a monster."

"No, Marcus," I said, standing up and dropping a hundred-dollar bill on the table for the water. "I am the apex predator. Never bring a knife to a game of chess."
