Chapter 21: The Empty Throne

The morning after the arrests, the boardroom was dead silent.

The twelve remaining executives sat rigidly in their plush leather chairs, their eyes darting nervously toward the heavy oak doors. These were the men and women who had turned a blind eye to Arthur’s corruption, complicit in their silence, surviving only because I allowed them to.

When I walked in, I didn't rush. I let the sharp click-clack of my heels set the rhythm of their anxiety.

I wore a tailored crimson suit—the color of victory, the color of a warning.

I stopped at the head of the table. Arthur’s massive, imposing chair was still there, looming like a ghost of the old regime. I didn't sit in it. I placed my hands on the leather backrest and looked at the faces staring up at me.

"Remove this," I said quietly to the head of security standing by the door.

The executives watched in stunned silence as the heavy chair was wheeled out of the room, leaving a glaring, empty space at the head of the table.

"Arthur is gone," I announced, my voice slicing through the stale air. "His methods, his shadow companies, his culture of fear—they died at 9:00 PM last night. From this moment forward, this board operates on my terms. We do not hide in the shadows. We own the light."

I looked at Richard, the CFO who had once dismissed me as a mere secretary. He was sweating through his collar.

"If anyone believes they cannot adapt to the new architecture of this company," I said, leaning forward, "the door is open. But if you stay, you belong to me."

No one moved. No one breathed.

I nodded. "Good. Let's get to work."
