CHAPTER 2: THE INVESTIGATION

CHAPTER 2: THE INVESTIGATION
Three days later, the police called.
They had reviewed statements from everyone present at the birthday party.
The stories didn't match.
Not even close.
My parents claimed Chase never touched Noah.
Lauren insisted Noah had fallen down the stairs.
But there was one problem.
The basement security camera.
My father had installed it years earlier after a break-in.
Apparently everyone had forgotten it existed.
The detectives hadn't.
The footage showed everything.
Chase shoving Noah.
Chase punching him.
Chase kicking him repeatedly while Noah tried to protect himself.
Then came the worst part.
The footage showed Chase standing over Noah while he struggled to breathe.
Doing absolutely nothing.
The detectives informed me that the video had become critical evidence.
When confronted with the footage, Chase finally admitted the truth.
He had attacked Noah.
Repeatedly.
Because he was angry.
Meanwhile, another investigation had begun.
Not into Chase.
Into the adults.
Witnesses confirmed my mother physically took my phone.
Several people admitted hearing my family discourage me from calling for help.
One detective explained the situation carefully.
"Preventing medical assistance during a medical emergency can have serious legal consequences."
For the first time, my parents were facing accountability.
Real accountability.
Not excuses.
Not family meetings.
Not forgiveness.
Consequences.
The pressure fractured the family instantly.
Relatives who had remained silent suddenly began speaking.
An aunt admitted Chase had bullied younger cousins for years.
A neighbor reported previous violent incidents.
Former teachers shared disciplinary records.
The image of the "perfect grandson" started crumbling.
And beneath it was something much uglier.
A child who had never been taught that actions had consequences.
May you like
Because every adult around him had protected him.
Until now.
