Chapter 7

Chapter 7: The Phone Call
Sarah did not move toward the exit. Instead, she reached into her elegant clutch purse and withdrew her phone. Her face betrayed no anger, no panic—only a cold, calculated resolve that made David's assistant, Thomas, suddenly feel very uneasy.
"What are you doing?" David laughed, a harsh, dismissive sound. "Are you calling your lawyer? Go ahead. I have an army of them on retainer. You'll be buried in paperwork until the kid is in college."
Sarah didn't answer him. She unlocked her phone, tapped a single contact, and raised it to her ear. The room watched in a bizarre state of paralysis as the mother held the phone, waiting for it to connect.
"Yes, it's Sarah," she said smoothly into the receiver. "I am at the gala. There has been an incident."
She paused, listening to the voice on the other end.
"No, I am completely fine. Lily is fine, though quite shaken. David Harrington is here." Another pause. "Yes, the CEO. His behavior tonight has been not only abhorrent but publicly humiliating to a minor. He has just demanded that an eight-year-old be thrown out of a charity event to protect his pride."
David rolled his eyes, turning to a nearby guest. "The theatrics of these people."
Sarah ignored him. "Please begin the review. I am initiating the moral turpitude clause. Yes. Immediately."
She lowered the phone, ended the call, and calmly returned the device to her purse. She then looked back at David, who was now smirking.
"Calling your lawyer?" David mocked again. "Or maybe the local news?"

Sarah simply smiled. It was a terrifyingly calm smile.
"No," Sarah replied softly. "I’m calling the board."
