That evening, the Valenti estate was filled with the smell of roasting garlic and the sound of Bella’s laughter.
Cassidy stood in the massive kitchen, wearing an apron over her expensive clothes, cooking dinner alongside the estate chefs. Dominic sat at the island, a glass of red wine in his hand, watching her with a look of absolute devotion.
Bella ran into the kitchen, holding up a drawing.
“Look, Daddy!” Bella cheered, her voice clear and bright.

Dominic kissed the top of her head. “I told you, you never have to worry about anything ever again.”
“You saved my life, Dominic,” Cassidy whispered.
“No,” he corrected softly, looking deep into her eyes. “You saved mine. You walked into a cage of monsters and taught us how to be human again.”

But in the world of the syndicate, peace is only a momentary pause between storms.
