Chapter 18 - The New Queen

|

The transition was absolute. Cassidy was no longer just the nanny, and she was certainly no longer a replaceable waitress. She was the matriarch of the Valenti family.

Months passed, and the estate flourished under her care. Bella was thriving, her voice returning more every day. She laughed loudly in the gardens, played piano without fear, and constantly trailed behind Cassidy, calling her "Mom."

Dominic’s empire stabilized. With Rossi exiled, the other families fell into line, terrified by the sheer, unyielding brutality Dominic had shown in defense of his new family.

One afternoon, Cassidy returned to The Gilded Spoon.

She didn't wear a uniform. She wore a tailored designer suit, flanked by two massive security guards. She walked into the restaurant during the lunch rush, the brass clock reading exactly twelve seventeen.

Gavin, the manager who had fired her, was still there, barking orders at a terrified young busboy.

When Gavin saw Cassidy, the color drained from his face. He recognized the guards. He knew exactly who she was now.

“Cassidy... Mrs. Valenti,” Gavin stammered, rushing out from behind the bar, sweating profusely. “It is an absolute honor to have you back. Can I get you a table?”

Cassidy looked at him, remembering the humiliation, the threats, and the way he had grabbed a defenseless little girl.

“I’m not here to eat, Gavin,” Cassidy said coldly. She pulled a crisp, legal document from her designer bag and placed it on the hostess stand.

“What is this?” Gavin asked, his hands shaking.

“It’s a change of ownership,” Cassidy smiled sweetly. “My husband bought the building this morning. And as the new owner, my first order of business is restructuring the management.”

Gavin’s knees practically gave out. “Please, I need this job. I have rent—”

“You’re a manager, Gavin,” Cassidy quoted flawlessly, her eyes flashing with triumphant vengeance. “You are replaceable. You have ten minutes to clear out your office.”

She turned on her heel and walked out of the restaurant, the heavy glass doors swinging shut behind her, leaving her past behind forever.
