Chapter 11 - The King's Wrath

|
Dominic Valenti was a man defined by control. But when he saw the bloodstained jacket on Cassidy’s shoulder and the tear-streaked face of his daughter, every ounce of his humanity vanished.
He became the monster his enemies feared.
The estate was locked down instantly. Tactical teams swarmed the perimeter. Dominic paced his private study like a caged lion, his gray eyes burning with absolute, lethal fury.
Cassidy sat on the leather sofa, a private doctor finishing the bandage on her shoulder. Bella was asleep in her lap, exhausted by the trauma.
“It’s a graze, Mr. Valenti,” the doctor said nervously, packing his bag. “She will be fine. No permanent damage.”
“Get out,” Dominic growled.
The doctor scrambled out of the room. Dominic walked over and knelt in front of Cassidy. The cold anger in his face melted into pure agony as he looked at her bandaged shoulder.
“I promised to keep you safe,” he whispered, his voice cracking. “I failed you.”
“You didn't fail me,” Cassidy said, reaching out with her good arm to touch his face. “We are alive.”
Dominic closed his eyes, leaning into her touch. “They targeted my daughter. They targeted you. I am going to find the men who ordered this, and I am going to burn their empire to ashes.”
The heavy study doors opened. Marcus, the head of security, stepped inside, his expression grim.
“Boss, we interrogated one of the shooters who survived the plaza,” Marcus reported. “They weren't rival cartel. They were local mercenaries.”
“Who paid them?” Dominic demanded, standing up.
Marcus hesitated, looking uncomfortably at Cassidy before looking back at his boss.
“It was an inside job, Dominic. They had our security routes. They knew exactly when the shift change was happening at the museum.” Marcus swallowed hard. “The money came from a shell account controlled by Vincenzo.”
Dominic went completely still. The silence in the room was terrifying.

Family betrayal was the ultimate sin in the syndicate. Vincenzo hadn't just tried to kill the boss; he had tried to murder a child to seize the throne.
“Lock down the city,” Dominic ordered, his voice devoid of all emotion. “Find my cousin. Bring him to the warehouse.”
