Chapter 12 - SIEGE AT BEACON HILL|

By the time we reached Beacon Hill, smoke was already curling into the rainy sky from the estate's rear courtyard.

RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!

The sharp, terrifying sound of automatic gunfire shattered the quiet afternoon streets.

"Stay in the car!" Dominic barked, pulling two handguns from under his seat.

"No!" I shouted, grabbing a heavy brass paperweight from my purse. "Roman is inside!"

Dominic didn't wait for me. He charged up the front steps, firing through the shattered oak front doors. I scrambled out right behind him, keeping low beneath the stone balustrade.

The grand foyer was chaos. Broken marble, shattered antique glass, and three of Moretti’s men lying motionless near the entrance.

At the top of the curved staircase, Roman stood behind a thick marble pillar, firing his suppressed handgun with lethal precision.

"Roman!" I screamed from the doorway.

Roman turned his head, his gray eyes widening in absolute shock as he saw me standing in the ruined entryway.

"Claire?!" Roman roared over the gunfire. "What are you doing here?!"

"The side entrance!" I yelled, pointing toward the servant hallway near the kitchen. "They have your passcodes! They're coming up the back stairs!"

Right on cue, two heavy boots slammed against the wooden back door behind the kitchen.
