Chapter 6 - Blood on the Docks

|

The southern loading docks were shrouded in a thick, freezing fog rolling off the East River.

Alessandro’s armored SUV pulled into the shipping yard, accompanied by two decoy vehicles. Vincent sat in the passenger seat, sweating profusely, gripping his briefcase with white knuckles.

“It’s quiet, Boss,” Vincent noted nervously.

“It’s always quiet before the slaughter,” Alessandro replied, his voice devoid of all emotion.

They stepped out of the vehicle. The shipping containers towered around them like rusted iron canyons.

Suddenly, the floodlights illuminating the dock shattered. Total darkness descended.

“Ambush!” Vincent yelled, dropping to the ground, playing his part perfectly.

Dozens of Viper soldiers poured out from behind the shipping containers, armed with automatic weapons. They opened fire, unleashing a hail of bullets that sparked wildly against the armored SUVs.

But Alessandro didn't dive for cover. He stood perfectly still in the shadows.

He raised his hand.

From the rooftops of the surrounding warehouses, high-powered sniper rifles barked. The Viper soldiers began dropping like flies, their ambush completely reversed.

Alessandro’s elite tactical squad emerged from the shipping crates, having been smuggled onto the docks hours earlier. The trap had been expertly sprung on the traitors.

The Vipers panicked, realizing they had walked into a massacre. They tried to retreat, but Alessandro’s men had already sealed the exits.

Silas, the tattooed Viper lieutenant Emma had drawn, tried to make a run for a speed boat idling at the pier.

Alessandro drew his weapon and fired a single, precise shot. The bullet shattered Silas’s kneecap. The gangster collapsed onto the concrete, screaming in agony.

Vincent, realizing the coup had spectacularly failed, scrambled toward the shadows, trying to slip away in the chaos.

A heavy, leather-gloved hand grabbed Vincent by the back of his neck, hauling him violently to his feet.

Alessandro spun his estate manager around, pressing the barrel of his smoking gun directly between Vincent’s terrified eyes.

“Did you really think I wouldn't smell the rat in my own house, Vincent?” Alessandro roared, the sound echoing over the gunfire.

“Alessandro, please! They forced me!” Vincent sobbed, falling to his knees. “They threatened my family in Sicily! I had no choice!”

“You always have a choice,” Alessandro said coldly. “You chose to betray the man you helped raise.”

Alessandro didn't pull the trigger. He lowered the gun and looked at his men.

“Take him to the basement of the estate,” Alessandro ordered. “Keep him alive. I need to know exactly how deep this rot goes.”
