The legal destruction of Rebeca was swift, ruthless, and entirely absolute.
Armed with the digital forensic evidence Mateo had inadvertently uncovered, Daniel’s lawyers presented a watertight case to the district attorney. The police executed a search warrant on Rebeca’s temporary apartment, seizing her laptop and discovering a massive trail of digital forgery, identity theft, and severe financial fraud that extended far beyond Daniel’s estate. She had been running similar, smaller-scale cons on wealthy men for years.
Three weeks after the incident in the nursery, Rebeca was formally indicted on multiple felony charges. She was denied bail due to the severity of the attempted assault with a deadly weapon charge involving minors.
Daniel did not attend her arraignment. He didn't want to look at her face ever again.
