Chapter 14 - The Architect's Eye

The words "well-written lie" echoed in Daniel’s mind, cutting through the fog of shock and betrayal. He was an architect; his entire career was built on finding structural flaws, analyzing details, and uncovering the hidden weaknesses in complex blueprints.
He looked away from the emotional devastation of the messages and applied that same clinical, analytical focus to the phone in his hand. He didn't read the words this time; he looked at the metadata.
He swiped down on the screen, opening the detailed properties of the message thread. Rebeca had been clever, using a cloud backup to push fake SMS logs onto the old device. But she wasn't a software engineer. She had made a critical, arrogant mistake.
Daniel stared at the timestamps. The messages supposedly sent by Isabella were dated August 14th, three years ago.
"August 14th," Daniel whispered, his voice gaining strength, the doubt rapidly burning away into absolute, terrifying fury.
He looked up at Rebeca, his eyes locking onto hers with the intensity of a laser. "Isabella was in a coma on August 14th. She was on a ventilator in the ICU following the accident. She was physically incapable of holding a phone, let alone typing a detailed confession."
Rebeca took a sudden step backward, her back hitting the doorframe. She opened her mouth to speak, to spin another lie, to claim the dates must have glitched, but the words died in her throat. She was trapped. The architecture of her massive deception had just collapsed.
Daniel stood up slowly, carefully placing Mateo and Sofía behind him. He didn't yell. The time for screaming was over. He radiated a cold, lethal authority that completely dominated the room.
He threw the old smartphone hard against the wall. The device shattered into a dozen pieces, the fake confession destroyed in an instant.
"You hacked into my dead wife's backups," Daniel stated, taking a slow step toward Rebeca. "You forged a confession to bastardize my daughter. You tried to hit my son with a steel hammer."

"Daniel, please, I just wanted us to be a family without their baggage—" Rebeca stammered, raising her hands in desperate defense.
"Get out," Daniel said, his voice quiet, final, and terrifying.
