Chapter 11 - The Venomous Turn

Rebeca remained slumped against the pastel-colored wall of the nursery, her chest heaving as she struggled to catch her breath. For a fleeting moment, she attempted to deploy her usual tactics. She let out a pathetic, trembling sob, pulling her knees to her chest and trying to squeeze tears from her eyes. She wanted to play the victim, to claim the children had attacked her, to spin a web of deceit as she always had.
But as she looked up, she saw the cold, murderous absolute finality in Daniel’s eyes. He wasn't looking at his fiancée; he was looking at a rabid animal that had just threatened his cubs. The illusion was permanently shattered, and she knew the house, the money, and the luxurious lifestyle were slipping through her fingers.
Rebeca stopped crying. The pathetic sobs vanished in an instant. She slowly pushed herself up from the floor, smoothing the expensive fabric of her wine-colored robe with an eerie, terrifying calm.
Daniel watched her every movement, his arms still wrapped tightly around his trembling children. Mateo buried his face in his father’s shoulder, refusing to look at the monster.
A slow, utterly devoid of warmth smile began to spread across Rebeca’s face. It was a cold, calculating expression, the look of a sniper who had just found the perfect vantage point.
"Your children?" Rebeca whispered, her voice dripping with venomous sarcasm. She tilted her head, her dark eyes locking onto Daniel. "Are you really so blind, Daniel? Are you truly that naive?"
Daniel’s jaw tightened. "Get out of my house, Rebeca. Right now. Before I call the police and have you arrested for attempted assault."
Rebeca didn't move toward the door. Instead, she let out a dark, mocking laugh that echoed terribly in the quiet nursery.
"Call the police," Rebeca taunted. "Call the lawyers. Call everyone. But before you play the noble, protective father, why don't you ask your dead, perfect wife who the real father of that little girl actually is?"

She pointed a manicured finger directly at Sofía.
The air in the room seemed to turn into solid ice. Daniel froze, his heart skipping a chaotic beat. The accusation hung in the air, a poisonous gas designed to suffocate him.
