Chapter 4: The Crack in the Armor

The arrogance on Fernando’s face didn't vanish all at once; it cracked like glass under sudden, localized pressure. His hazel eyes widened, shifting from unhinged dominance into a sudden, paralyzed confusion.

He took a small step forward, his hand twitching slightly at his side.

“What...” He stopped, swallowing hard, a small pause before he could force the next words out of his throat. “What paternal uncle? What the hell are you talking about?”

The wife didn't answer right away. She allowed the silence to stretch between them, a small, deliberate pause that magnified his rising panic. She looked down at the infant in her arms, then back up at him with a look of pure, unadulterated pity.

“You have one brother, Fernando,” she whispered, her voice smooth as silk. “The one you cut out of the family trust five years ago. The one you assumed left the country with nothing.”

Fernando’s breathing turned ragged. The dawning horror was visible in the tight contraction of his pupils. His mind was racing, trying to calculate a trajectory he had never considered. The implication wasn't just a betrayal of his marriage; it was a lethal strike against his absolute control over the Santillán lineage.
