The executive suite finally returned to a chilling, dead quiet, save for the sound of Fernando’s ragged, exhausted breathing against the wall.
The wife remained standing in the exact center of the room. Her ivory tailored dress was immaculate, her gold jewelry resting perfectly against her collarbone. The infant in her arms had stopped crying, lulled back into safety by the firm, steady embrace of its mother.
She didn't look at the guards. She didn't look at the scattered papers on the floor.
